Netanya is advancing five urban-renewal proposals in the city centre, Kiryat Nordau and Neot Shaked. They envisage around 1,350 apartments, commercial premises and public spaces. These are plans, not an announcement that construction has begun.
City centre
At Dizengoff and Stampfer streets, the plan would demolish seven older buildings, preserve one and construct four residential buildings with shops, offices and pedestrian passages. At Brodetsky Street and Binyamin Boulevard, six older buildings would be replaced by three residential buildings, shops, a passage and a public square.
Sharon cinema
A third proposal concerns two buildings and the historic Sharon cinema. A residential tower and commercial space are envisaged while the cinema building would be preserved for possible future use. Planning document 28 calls for preservation of the entire cinema and public ownership of its land, but gives no reopening date.
Other neighbourhoods
Near Behor Shitrit Street in Kiryat Nordau, five older buildings would be replaced with four new ones, shops and land for public facilities. At Ephraim Elnakave and Greenboim streets in Neot Shaked, older housing blocks would be replaced with two residential buildings, shops, public open space, pedestrian and cycle paths and a site for public facilities.
The Dizengoff–Stampfer proposal still required local planning committee consideration. Demolition, construction and occupancy dates have not been specified.
