Poleg Beach in Netanya was among the sites taking part in a nationwide cleanup of beaches and waterways organised by the Zalul association. The 16 October operation covered about 40 locations.
Organisers said roughly 2,000 volunteers collected about six tonnes of waste nationwide. In the Sharon area, work also took place at Mikhmoret and Neurim beaches and along the Alexander River, where 160 participants removed about 400 kg of rubbish.
Zalul said the effort was also intended to highlight the harm caused by single-use plastic and the need for regular cleaning and enforcement.
