Netanya joins call for national plan against illegal waste burning
Netanya and more than 100 municipalities called for a funded national programme to curb illegal waste burning and air pollution.

Netanya is among more than 100 local authorities that appealed to party leaders for a coordinated response to illegal waste fires and the resulting air pollution.
Figures from Citizens for Clean Air, reported by 90FM, say more than 20,000 complaints about waste fires and severe smoke odours were recorded nationwide in 2024. The campaign argues that waste-treatment infrastructure, sustained enforcement and dedicated funding are all needed.
The municipal leaders asked for measurable targets, deadlines and responsible agencies to be included in the next government’s work plan. This is a public demand; no government decision has yet been reported.
