Laniado Hospital’s urology department in Netanya performed what it says was Israel’s first sacral pacemaker implantation using local anesthesia only. The device is used to treat urination disorders and urinary retention.
The procedure took place during a visit by French urologist Professor Jean-Nicolas Cornu, who joined the operation with the department led by Dr. Matan Meikaitan. According to the hospital, avoiding general anesthesia may shorten recovery and reduce anesthesia-related risks.
