For Netanya residents, the guidance is especially relevant to journeys through the city’s railway stations and intercity routes. Israel will hold elections for the 26th Knesset on Tuesday, 27 October 2026. From 8 p.m. on Monday, 26 October, until public transport services finish on election day, travel on Israel Railways and intercity bus routes longer than 15 km will be free for everyone. Urban and regional journeys of up to 15 km remain subject to normal fares. No validation is required on eligible bus services. Train passengers must obtain a free paper ticket from a station machine; Rav-Kav cards and transport apps are not a substitute, and fares paid through them will not be refunded. Election day is a statutory day off for most employees. Those who worked for the same employer for at least 14 consecutive days are generally entitled to paid leave without using an annual leave day. Special rules apply to essential public services; work on election day may qualify for 200% pay or ordinary pay plus a substitute day off, depending on applicable arrangements.
