The Netanya Municipal Committee for Naming Streets and Sites, chaired by Adv. Adir Binyamini, has officially approved a comprehensive package of new names for newly planned and developing roads across the city. The initiative prominently honors women who made historic contributions to Israeli governance, aviation, medicine, science, and the arts.

In eastern Netanya, four prominent former female Members of the Knesset and government ministers will be commemorated: Sara Kafrit, Ada Maimon, Sara Doron (who served as minister under Menachem Begin and Yitzhak Shamir), and Ora Namir (Minister of Labor and Social Affairs under Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres). Local civic history will be highlighted through a road named after Tzipora Bronstein, an early founder of Netanya and one of the first women elected to the local council.

Other distinguished honorees include Yael Rom, the first female pilot to graduate from the Israeli Air Force flight academy; Dr. Rachel Hirsch, a pioneering Jewish physician and medical scientist; Hanna Eden, an Israeli actress who made waves in Hollywood in the 1950s; and Jeannie Rousseau, a courageous intelligence heroine of the French Resistance during World War II. In addition, pedestrian promenades will be named after world-renowned literary figures Agatha Christie and Emily Dickinson, while major thoroughfares will honor legendary diplomat Abba Eban and former minister Prof. Amnon Rubinstein.

Netanya maintains the highest percentage of streets named after women of any city in Israel. Municipal officials emphasized that the new naming framework reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to gender equality, historical remembrance, and inspirational role models in public life.
